ABSTRAK

This study is about Nation’s four strands principles in teaching English. The
research aimed is to find out the applying the activities of Nation’s four strands
principles in teaching English in the school. This research was conducted since
20th august until 19th October 2018. The method used in this research was a
qualitative method. The data is gained from the instruments of document review
formed syllabus and lesson plan, classrooms observation used checklist item and
in-depth interview. The finding of this research is teachers in that school applied
almost all activities of the Nation’s four strands such as the activities of MeaningFocused


Input strand, Meaning-Focused output strand, Language Focused
Learning strand and Fluency Development strand. There is the activity of Nation’s
four strands which did not apply namely “Write Note to Someone activity”, it is
one activity of Meaning-Focused Output strand, based on the statement of teacher
that there was no suitable material to implement it. The process of implementing
the activities have applied by the teacher based on basic competencies and
learning materials.
