PEER TEACHING PROCESS IN ENGLISH SUBJECT AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

ABSTRAK

This research was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah Langsa and took a sample of class XI students in class XI 2. This research used a peer teaching process in English subjects to see the effectiveness of peer teaching. This research aims to look at the process and its application in the peer learning process. This research design is a phenomenological research approach. The data used in this research is qualitative, and the data collection instruments used are observation, interviews and questionnaires. The researcher conducted interviews once, gave questionnaires to students, and made observations twice. Researchers gave questionnaires to twenty class XI students to obtain complete and accurate data. The observation process is carried out during the teaching and learning process in class. Observations were made by attending English classes, taking field notes about everything that happened in the class during the teaching and learning process, and recording everything. The research results show that teachers use peer teaching as a peer learning technique so that students are more active and effective in learning. Learning Effective peer teaching techniques refer to the occurrence of positive reinforcement for correct responses given by students where students explain the material that the teacher has explained to students clearly and give appreciation to their colleagues. The results show that students are significantly more active in learning with their friends. This research shows the impact of using peer teaching: students become motivated, enthusiastic, more active and have fun during the learning process. Based on the research results, , it can be concluded that the peer teaching process in English subjects in high school can increase students' activeness in speaking and be more confident.
