ABSTRAK

This study aims to determine the effect of project-based learning on the writing skills of writing narrative texts for class IX students of SMP Negeri 5 Langsa. Researcher used pre-experimental research and classified as quantitative research. The population in this study were all students of class IX of SMP Negeri 5 Langsa and the sample of this study were students of class IX 2 of SMP Negeri 5 Langsa which consisted of 27 students, eleven male students and sixteen female students. The research sample was selected using purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study was class IX 2. Furthermore, the researcher used pre-test and post-test instruments in this sssstudy. In class, the researcher teaches by using project-based learning method in teaching writing narrative text. Researcher collect research data by following several steps including giving a pre-test, giving treatment by providing project-based learning and giving a post-test at the end of the study. The data in this study will then be calculated using Microsoft Excel 2011 and will be analyzed using SPSS version 24 using the statistical formula for calculating Paired Sample t-test with a significance of 0.05. Furthermore, the mean of the pretest was 4.55. After being given treatment, the average post test increased significantly, namely 8.25 with a gain of 3.7. This shows that project-based learning through infographics has a strong influence on students' writing skills. Finally, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect on the writing skills of grade IX students of SMP Negeri 5 Langsa.
