THE USING OF DEIXIS IN INFORMAL UTTERENCES

ABSTRAK

Deixis is emphasis on languages encode or grammaticalize features of the context of utterance or speech event as well the interpretation of the utterances from various situation or context. In this study, the research do the research to describe the deixis used by the narrator in Jakarta Post newspaper. The research belonged to descriptive qualitative study. To collect the data, the researcher do the observation to observe the languages or communication which are used by narrator of Jakarta Post newspaper. Lastly, the researcher focus on the communication which are used the deixis within. After collect the data, the researcher analyzes it by using the three steps of qualitative analyzing by Mile and Hubberman that consist of data reduction, data display and data verification. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded thatt there are three types of deixis which are used in article of Jakarta Post namely person deixis, spatial deixis and temporal deixis. The most dominantly types of deictic word which is used in article Jakarta Post is 81 occurrences, person deixis is used 54 times and have percentage 66,6% spatial deixis is used 5 times and have percentage 6,17% and temporal deixis is used 21 times and have percentage 26%. Based on the result above, the researcher suggest that The researcher hope for the English department students to give more attention in studying deixes well and do some of research with related to the topic.
