ABSTRAK

This research is aimed to (1) To find out whether the Scrabble game is effective in increasing students’ vocabulary at Junior High School level. (2) To know if the use of Scrabble games is effective to increasing students’ vocabulary. This research is using a pre-experimental design in the quantitative form by collecting data from test (pre-test and post-test), observation and questionnaire. The population of this research was all of the first year junior high school students of SMP N 1 Idi Timur. While, the sample was 25 students in seventh grades of class VII-1. The sample was selected by using random sampling. The experimental teaching was conduct in five meetings, two meeting for test (pre-test and post-test) and three meetings for treatment of Scrabble game. Based the result of the data analysis, the test shows the mean score of pre-test is 52,2 meanwhile the post-test is 75,8. It means that mean score of the post-test was higher than that of the pre-test. It can be conclude that by using Scrabble game is effective to increasing students’ vocabulary at junior high school level. The questionnaire result also shows some positive responses from the students stating that Scrabble game helps them in increasing vocabulary easily and enjoyable
