ABSTRAK

The objectives of this study is to investigate about the influence of the students' vocabulary and their reading comprehension. The researcher limited the problem of this research on what is a positive correlation between' students' vocabulary and reading comprehension in English?. The scope of this research focuses only on the vocabulary and reading comprehension in which this skill can not be separated fromclass learning and becomes the main instruments in the running of class when an interaction between the class teacher and the students happen. Descriptive analysis was done by presenting data through frequency distribution the researcher put two variablq,which are the first is the scoring of students' reading ability taken by from their comprehension in reading with the text; it is considered as independent variable (variable X). The second variable is students' achievement in vocabulary; considered as dependent variable (variable Y).Vocabulary and reading test used as instruments of this research. Based on what is being found in analyzing the data, it could decise that each level of students' vocabulary is follow by the level of students' reading comprehension. In other word, it can say that the higher student have good capability in vocabulary, also the higher students have comprehension in reading. In Hypothesis testing, the result shows that the value of thitung > ttabel namely 7,0384 > 2,268 at a =0,01 and thitung > ttabe, namely 7,0384 > 1,701 at a =0,05 so Ho refused and H1 accepted. It means that correlation coefficient X and Y is very significant or found that there is correlation between students' vocabulary and students' reading comperehension in 2nd grade in SMAN 1 Peureulak. In otherwise the students' vocabulary is one aspect that is imporatant in order to improve their reading comprehension. So, it is 99% level, accepted. Based on the situation in case to improving students' vocabulary is the students' teaching and learning process which is accesible to their reading comprehension
