ABSTRAK

This research was motivated by the low level of english reading skills learning activities for eight grade students at the MTsS Geudubang Aceh school. This can be seen when the process of learning english reading skill takes place in the classroom, students appear lazy and not enthusiastic about participating in english learning, and there are also those who are still hesitant to start reading the english texts given by the teacher. When asked by the teacher to read story texts in english books, students feel afraid and anxious about starting these english reading skills. Even the monotonous use of methods and media is still quite popular among teachers in the learning process, especially in learning students’ reading skills. Using application media as teaching material can help students be more active compared to learning that is carried out monotonously. This research uses a quantitative approach with experimental method and a pre-experimental research design type one group pretest-posttest design. The sample used was class VIII/I, totaling 31 students. The results of this research are first based on the results of the pretest, the average number of students in class VIII/I before being given learning using sparkol media was 10,90 and posttest the average number of students in class VIII/I after being given learning using sparkol media was 32,54. Namely (32,54>10,90) this shows that the use of the posttest looks more effective compared to the pretest before learning is given media learning takes place monotonously by the teacher.
