ABSTRAK

The aims of this study were to know the analyze of Does the use of gist strategy increase reading comprehension in class. The research conducted X.1 MAN 1 Langsa. The research was quantitative method by using quasi experimental design approach. The research instrument in this study is the Pre test and Post test to collect the data. The sample of this data is experimental class (X.1) total students’ is 19 students’ and control class (X.3) total students’ 19 Students’. From this research in two class is 36 studens’ from MAN 1 Langsa. The results of this research the researcher found Based on the result of pre test and post test, it can be concluded that using GIST Strategy in Increase student’s Reading comperhension was effective. It proved by the result of hypothesis test. The value of t_count was consulted with the value of t_table with dk = (19 + 19-2) = 36 with a significance level of 5%, it was found t_table = 1.671. The t-test result was 2.012 with df was 36. In the conclusion, p-value was 0.000, which 2-tailed value was lower than 0.05 table (alpha value). The result showed that the scores differ much between students’ Reading comperhension posttest mean score between experimental Class and control Class. It showed that t_count> t_table, it was 2.012 >1.671. It might conclude that there is a significant difference in increase students’ reading comperhension table post test mean score experimental group and control group at the first grades of MAN 1 Langsa, it meant H_a was accepted and H_o was rejected.
