IMPROVING STUDENT’S SPEAKING SKILL IN ORAL DESCRIPTIVE TEXT BY USING AUDIO VISUAL MEDIA

ABSTRAK

The aims of thise Research were to analyze whether oral descriptive text by using audio visual media improve student’s speaking skill and to know the students perception related oral descriptive text by using audio visual media improve student’s speaking skill. The research use quantitatif pre-expremental. The population of this research was 57 students at SMPN 6 Darul Makmur and the sample was 11 students from class VIII-1. The instrument of collecting data were observation, pretest, posttest,and interview. The data was analyzed and the results showed that the average pre-test score was 32.73, while the post-test score was 81.36, an increase of 48.63 points. There was an improvement in five assessment aspects: grammar increased from 1 to 3, vocabulary from 1 to 3, understanding 1 to 4, smoothness 1 to 3, pronunciation 1 to 3. Based on the data, understanding was most improved by the audio- visual method. There was an increase in students' speaking after students were taught using the audio-visual method. The results show that students have a positive response to the use of audio-visual media because 100% of the responses were positive to the use of audio-visual methods for teaching speaking. Therefore, it is recommended that English teachers who have similar problems should try using audio-visual methods to teach speaking.
