ABSTRAK

This study uses the Total Physical Response method through Simon Says game. This study aims to see the improvement of student’s vocabulary and the impact of using the TPR method through Simon says game. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 9 Langsa and took first grade students in class VII 2. The design of this study is Classroom Action Research. Data used in this study are quantitative and qualitative, and the data collection instruments used are Post-test, observation, and documentation. The research consisted of two cycles, each cycle had two meetings with four steps: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results showed that students significantly increased their vocabulary. The mean post-test in cycle one was 41.6%, and in cycle two was 73.2%, this indicates that the student's scores and mean increased in the second cycle. The percentage of students who got scored 70 or above also increased. In the first cycle post-test, there were 4 students (14.8%) who scored 70 or above. While in the second cycle post-test, students who got 70 or more scores were 19 students (70.3%). The results of observation and documentation show the impact of using the TPR method through Simon says game in teaching and learning process: students become motivated, enthusiastic and fun during the learning process. Based on the study's result, it can be concluded that applying the TPR method through Simon Says game can improve student’s vocabulary.
