ABSTRAK

The aim of this study is to find out the correlation between reading interest and reading comprehension and to find the factors that influence students’ reading interest. In this research, researcher used quantitative research with a correlational study design the sample of this research is students of XI IPA 2 in SMA Negeri 3 Langsa. Researcher used questionnaires, reading test, and interviews as instruments in this research. The results of this research are there is a correlation between reading interest and reading comprehension. This can be seen from the very strong correlation between reading interest and reading comprehension. It can be seen from the results that t is bigger than t0.05;36 with a significant level of 0.05 (8.57 > 1.68830). Thus H0 is rejected, then Ha is accepted. The magnitude of the influence contribution given by the reading interest variable (X) on reading comprehension (Y) is 68.48%. The remaining 31.52% is influenced by other factors. This research also found that there are two main factors influencing reading interest, namely internal factors (intelligence, interest, attention, perseverance, and reading habits), and external factors (environmental factors).
