ABSTRAK

This study purposed to analyze the effect of repeated reading in improving students’ reading fluency in reading Narrative Text and how repeated reading improve students’ reading fluency in reading narrative text. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Langsa. This study used a quantitative method which was carried out to improve students' reading fluency using the repeated reading. The Pre-experimental research design applied in this research is One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population of this study were students of class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Langsa. Where class VIII consists of 7 classes namely, VIII-1, VIII-2, VIII-3, VIII- 4, VIII-5, VIII-6, VIII-7 and there are 145 students in all class VIII when combined. In this case the researcher used a purposive sampling technique by taking a sample of class VIII-1 as the sample of this research. Based on the result of the study, it could be concluded that repeated reading strategy improves students’ reading fluency in class VIII SMP N 2 Langsa. It could be seen by the mean score of students’ score in posttest was higher than the students’ score in pretest. The mean score obtained by the students in posttest (73.46) was higher than the score obtained in the pretest (38.27).   Repeated reading is one of the strategy which can be used in teaching reading fluency. Repeated reading strategy improves students' reading fluency through multiple mechanisms. By encountering the same words and passages multiple times, students develop word recognition skills and become more proficient in decoding, leading to quicker and more accurate reading.
