ABSTRAK

This research was conducted at Junior High School, Langsa city which is a school located in downtown. This study examines the process of learning English to prepare students for the 21st century. This study aims to determine the implementation of Higher Order Thinking Skills applied to the process of teaching and learning English. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with purposive sampling for selecting subject as data source. This research found that the implementation of Higher Order Thinking Skills in English language teaching mostly promote students speaking and writing skills. Higher Order Thinking Skills have been implemented as the regulation of education minister, even though not all learning English process are able to implement Higher Order Thinking Skills. Higher Order Thinking Skills in English class make students comfortable and become active to communicate in English class. Furthermore, this research found implementing HOTS in class makes students think critically, creative, and collaboration in English class.
