ABSTRAK

This study focuses on the application of animated videos in teaching listening and the effectiveness of learning listening skills by using animated videos. The study uses quantitative methods with a pre-experimental research design of one group pre-test and post-test. The population in this study was all eighth grade students of SMP  Negeri 8  Langsa and the sample of this study was all eighth grade students, consisting of 35  students, 15  male students and 20  female students. The sample for  this  study used the  purposive  sampling  technique.  In data collection techniques, pre-test and post-test were used. . The data was collected using several steps, namely a pre-test, treatment through animated videos, and a post-test at the end of the study. The data that have been collected in this study were calculated using Microsoft Excel and analyzed using SPSS version 20 for statistical formulas in calculating a paired sample t test with a significance of 0.05. Furthermore, the average pre-test  score was 49.86.   After  being given treatment, the post-test average has increased significantly, which is 75, and the t test value is greater than the t table (18,601>  1,690.92).  Based on the results of the study, the use of animated videos in teaching listening skills is effective and can improve students' listening skills. Animated videos can help students understand the material easily by listening to sounds and seeing images. The movement of the image makes students interested in learning to listen.
