AN ANALYSIS OF LEXICAL METAPHOR IN ELIZABETH GILBERT’S NOVEL EAT PRAY LOVE

ABSTRAK

The aimed of this study were to find the kinds of Lexical Metaphor and the dominant kind of lexical metaphor in Elizabeth Gilbert’s Novel Eat Pray Love. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method in this study. The source of data in this research was Elizabeth Gilbert’s Novel Eat Pray Love. In this case the researcher used study document as the way to collect the data. There were three activities on data analysis; data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/ verification. The result of this research showed that the total data of Lexical Metaphor in Elizabeth Gilbert’s Novel Eat Pray Love was 54. Based on the result and the discussion, the type of Lexical Metaphor found by the researcher was noun-noun concept, noun-verb concept, and noun-adjective. The data found in Elizabeth Gilbert’s Novel Eat Pray Love could be identified that there were 54 total data. The occurrences of Nominal-Nominal were 39, Nominal-Verbal/Verbal-Nominal was 2, and Nominal-Adjective was 13. It was concluded the dominant type was Lexical Metaphor of Noun-Noun Concept; it was 39 clauses/ sentences of lexical metaphor.
