ACTIVE LEARNING STRATEGY ON ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

ABSTRAK

This study focuses on English teachers at SMAN 2 Langsa in kind of active
learning strategies and the way of implementing the active learning strategies by
English teachers. The method by used is descriptive qualitative. The techniques of
collected the data by observation and interview of English teachers and students at
SMAN 2 Langsa. The result of this study that are: the kinds of active learning
strategies by English teachers by three points: first, before teaching learning
process go on, they are starting to asking or converse with the students to know
students interest and giving motivation. Second, teachers choosing some methods
that relate with the atmosphere on the class, such as: role play, grouping, and etc.
Third, teachers choosing media that related with the methods. the way of
implementing the active learning strategies by English teachers there are: teachers
explain the material more detail and deeply then giving some examples, this way
will increasing the understanding of students, teachers introducing the media that
want to discuss, and teacher suggest students to make some group or individual to
do the task, then occasionally teachers survey their students to know how far the
students understanding about the task, and students presenting their task on the
class, then teachers give some motivations for students to increasing their
interesting on the English subject for next meeting
