ABSTRAK

This study discusses about student difficulties during writing hortatory exposition text. The research was conduct at SMA N 3 Langsa in August-October 2018. The purpose of this study are to find the difficulties that student face during writing hortatory exposition text. This study is using mix method as research design. The subject of this study is student in class XI at SMA N 3 Langsa. The data was collected by using interview and analyze student written text as instrument of this research. In this research, Student interview consist of 5 questions and analyze student text, the interview were allotted with 5 questions and student written text by the student as a result data in this research. The instrument is distributed to 10 students and take student notes. In addition the result of this research showed student face several difficulties during writing hortatory exposition text there are vocabulary difficulties, sentence structure, punctuation and content organize. Based on the average score that is 51,5 which is include in very difficult criterion. This research suggest that teacher and student can cooperate in developing students writing skill in writing hortatory exposition text. Students idea in writing english can be better development by teacher learning method, so the students more enthusiasm and more interested in learning process.
