ABSTRAK

Peer group is a group of people with similar age, sex, interest and background. The aims of the study were to find the influence of peer group on students’ English academic achievement and to investigate the factors that influence students’ English academic achievement. To gain the data for this study, the writer conducted the research in SMA N 1 Langsa. There are thirty five students in XI MIA 4 as the sample of this research. The writer used questionnaires, rapport card and interview to collect the data. The writer also used descriptive quantitative research to analyse the data in order to answer questions about people’s opinion, behaviour or characteristic and used the correlation method to test the hypothesis. The result of the data showed that the mean of the students’ score was 81,628 and the standard deviation was 3,88. The correlation coefficient number of peer group influence and students’ English academic achievement was 0,668540248. It showed more than the significant level 5% with the value 0,334. The writer also found the t-score of the data was 5,164 while the critical value for df 33 at the level of significant 5% with t-value was 2,0345. It showed that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It means that there is significant influence of peer group on students’ English academic achievement. The writer also found that the peer group became the main factor that influence students’ English academic achievement. Hopefully, the students are able to choose the good peer and motivated each other in order to increase the academic achievement.
