ABSTRAK

This study focused on the using of word formation process in President Barack Obama’s Commencement Speech at Dear Class of 2020. The aim of the study were to clasify, analyzed and found the type of word formation mostly used in president barack obama’s commencement speech at dear class of 2020. The method used in this study is qualitative content anaysis. This study was conducted by using the theory of word formation by Yule (2010) and Katamba (1993). The result of this study found eight types of word formation. Those are borrowing, compounding, blending, clipping, backformation, conversion, acronym and derivation. In the finding of the which type most frequently used in this study using Bungin’s formula. The most dominant type of word formation was derivation 50%, and then followed by compounding 29%, backformation 7%, and the next is conversion 4%, and then clipping and acronym 3% and then borrwing and blending 2%. In this study, derivation is the type of word formation process that mostly used in President Barack Obama Commencement Speech at Dear Class of 2020
