ENGLISH TEACHERS PERFORMANCE IN TEACHING ENGLISH AT SMP NEGERI 1 ALAFAN, KABUPATEN SIMEULUE: ANTHROPOLINGUISTIC APPROACH

ABSTRAK

The aims of this study were to describe the English teacher’s performance in teaching English at SMP Negeri 1 Alafan, Kabupaten Simeulue through an anthropolinguistic approach. The research conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Alafan, Simeulue Island, Aceh Province. This study was a qualitative study and ethnography method. The research conducted on March to April 2022. The data collection method used observation and interview. In this case, the researcher observed the teacher's English performance in the classroom. Interview finished with English teacher. The interview was conducted outdoors after the teaching and learning process was completed. The results of this study that the parts of teaching process used by teacher were introduction, core and ending. In this case, the researcher observed the teacher's English performance in the classroom. Based on the anthropolinguistic approach, performance focused on the text, co-text and context as the first layer of analysis model of anthropolinguistic. The teacher started at 8 o’clock by greeting the students. In this research, teacher smile to students when came into the class before greeted the student. The teacher walked slowly and looked around the students to check the student work. Teacher gave a thumb up to give the positive respon for student who enthusiastic in learning process and smiled when the student responded the teacher correctly. The teacher used good intonation in explaining the lesson, asking questions and giving instructions. The teacher used firm intonation when giving instructions to students in doing group work, the teacher showed seriousness in ordering students. The teacher gave the positive respond for student who enthusiastic in learning process and the student was happy.
