ABSTRAK

This study focused on the use of riddle game technique in enhancing students' vocabulary and the effect in students' reading skills. This research is a quantitative study with quasi-experimental group design with a non-equivalent control group design. Two classes were included as the research sample. The participants were students of class X-IPA 3 as the control class and X IPS 1 as the experimental class at SMAN 5 Langsa. The instrument of collecting data used a questionnaire and test consisting of pre-test and post-test and it has been analyzed using T-test. The results show that the riddle game technique had significant influence in increasing students' English vocabulary, that is T count > T table, is 2.60 > 2.10 and also significant effect for reading skills that show the average score from 52 to 66. The riddle game technique can make them feel comfortable so that they can remember vocabulary easily, and make students feel active in the learning process which can make them understand the content of the material presented by the teacher and the content of reading in the textbook. This research made riddle game technique with the concept of dividing into several groups, then giving the first clue, second clue, etc. and letting each group guess until they get the highest score which will be the winner.
