ABSTRAK

The research is focused to analyzed what kind of difficulty that faced by students in dictation at class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Peureulak and factors that affect student’ difficulty. This research used the theory of Doglas Brown that are seven type of difficulty in dictation often made by students are: Spelling, Misrepresentation, Grammatical, Skipped word, Permutation word, Additional word, and Replacement word. To achieve the purpose of the research, researcher conducted Qualitatif research design. Researcher did two activity. In the library activity, researcher explored some reference book that were related to dictation test and listening. While in field activity, reseracher did test as the intrument for colleccting the data. researcher used descriptive qualitative and simple quantitative measurement to find the result. The results of the dictation test based on analysis of students answer sheet, the researcher found some type of difficulty such as, Spelling, Misrepresentation, Grammatical, Skipped word, Permutation word, Additional word, and Replacement word and factor of difficulty faced by students are carelessness, translation of first language and lack of vocabulary knowledge.
